Laptop Cart FAQs and Best Practices

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The cart should be locked when not in use.

Why are boot or login times excessive?  Laptops that have not been connected to the network may not have received security updates during the maintenance window and mandatory updates are installing during business hours.  Please note the following:

Best Practices

  1. Make sure network cables and power adapters are connected to the laptops while stored in the cart.
  2. Make sure the network cable is connected from the exterior of the cart to the designated network port on the wall. The cart will not work with random ports in other rooms.
  3. Make sure the power cord on the outside of the cart is connected to the wall and the cart is powered on.

Important note regarding securitySign out prior to placing the laptop in the cart.

Why won’t the laptop connect to the Mid-State network (Message:  No logon servers to log on to)?  Laptops should be connected to MSTC-LABS wireless network.  If a user changed the wireless network to Visitor Guest, Student Guest, or MSTC BYOD, users will not be able to login and connect to the Mid-State network.

  1. Enter Wireless in Search Windows.
  2. Select Change Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Select Show available networks.
  4. Select MSTC-LABS.

The screen is black and it won’t boot.  What should I do?

  1. Press and hold the power button for no less than 15 seconds.
  2. After releasing the button, press the power button again.

I want to make sure my data is secure and my email can’t be accessed by another user.  What should I do?

  1. Sign out prior to placing the laptop in the cart.
  2. The laptop should remain on when placed in the cart and reconnected to network and power cables.
